About this wheel
This is a reflection tool for coaching. It is not a medical test, and the zones are a guide rather than clinical cut-offs. "Time to get support" means many strong signs are showing up together. It is a signal to reach out for help. If your ratings are high, or you feel unwell, please talk with a doctor or a mental health professional as well as your coach.
The statements draw on three published sources and on patterns seen in coaching practice:
WHO, ICD-11 (2019). Describes burnout as a work syndrome from chronic stress that has not been managed well, with three parts: exhaustion, mental distance or cynicism toward the job, and reduced effectiveness.
Burnout Assessment Tool (Schaufeli, De Witte and Desart, 2020). Four core signs: exhaustion, mental distance, trouble thinking clearly, and trouble managing emotions. Read about the BAT.
Freudenberger and North (1992), twelve stages of burnout. Includes working harder, neglecting your own needs, denying problems, withdrawing from people, and filling the emptiness with food or other habits. See the stages.
